CPS is seeking for a committed legal professional to Lead our legal department and support our values; Starting from the heart, Obsessed with impact, trailblazing and green is currency.

Position overview:

As the Head of the Legal Department, you will be responsible for overseeing all legal aspects of our organization, ensuring compliance with applicable laws, and regulations,  acting as a government liaison and  strategically managing the legal team. 

Key Responsibilities:

1.Legal Drafting:

  • Draft, review, and modify various legal documents, contracts, and agreements to safeguard the company’s interests and ensure legal clarity and compliance.
  • Provide guidance and training to legal team members and other departments on effective legal drafting techniques and standards.
  1. Legal Risk Management:
  • Identify, assess, and proactively mitigate legal risks that could impact the organization’s operations and financial well-being.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive risk management strategies to minimize legal exposure and potential liabilities.

3.Litigation:

  • Manage and oversee all litigation matters, including the selection and collaboration with external counsel when necessary.
  • Develop litigation strategies and represent the organization in legal proceedings when required.

4.Legal Compliance:

  • Ensure the organization’s strict compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Monitor and update compliance policies and procedures to reflect changes in the legal landscape.

5.Legal Consultancy and Advisory:

  • Offer expert legal advice and counsel to senior management and department heads on a wide range of legal matters that affect the organization.
  • Keep stakeholders informed about legal developments that may impact the business and provide proactive solutions.

6.Legal Record Management:

  • Establish and maintain an efficient system for the organization’s legal records and documents, ensuring secure storage and retrieval.
  • Ensure that all legal documents and records are appropriately organized, indexed, and retained in accordance with legal requirements.

7.Legal Audit:

  • Conduct legal audits to evaluate the organization’s legal compliance, identify potential issues, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Develop and implement audit programs to monitor legal operations and maintain compliance.

Qualifications:

  •  LLB and active bar membership with minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience. (Practice registration in Zanzibar is an added value)
  • Proven experience in a senior legal role, with a strong emphasis on the functions mentioned.
  • Outstanding leadership and management skills to effectively lead a legal team.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving abilities.
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant laws and regulations.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining the highest ethical standards.

  • Lead the Legal department with a focus on legal drafting, risk management, litigation, compliance, advisory services, record management, and audits.
  • Provide expert Legal advice to our leadership team.
  • Develop and implement legal strategies that drive our success and ensure compliance.
